Cool Web 2.0 Tools
I am working on moving the "favorites" I have compiled to this page. Please be patient, it is the end of the school year :)
Animoto.com: The End of Sideshows This site, Animoto.com, allows users to upload their own photos and add video elements and music to create slide shows. The site offers users a free educator's account that will allow students or teachers to create videos up to several minutes long. Students can upload PowerPoint slides by creating a PowerPoint presentation then using the "Save As" function in PowerPoint to save the slides in "JPEG Interchange Format." Slides are then saved as photos that can be uploaded to the site and arranged in the order the presenter wishes. Slides or photos can also be highlighted and music can be added to the presentation to help engage students.
PikiStrips (comeeko.com): This site, Pikistrips allows users to upload images and edit them to create comic strip pages. The site is fairly user friendly and fun to use as well. Students can save the comic book page images by right clicking on a preview of them and saving them to their computers or portable storage devices. Check the blog archives for more information or the Student Examples for examples of the comic books my students have created using the site.
Prezi: I am quickly losing interest in PowerPoint because of Prezi.com. This presentation tool allows you to add your own pictures, clip art and flair to presentations easily. The site has a free educational account that allows you tons of opportunities. One fun thing I did was create a "Bulletin Board" for my class using the tool. I was able to embed it on my class website easily and the kids thought it was really neat. Here is a quick example:
